Q: I see you have multiple tryout dates for your age groups… Does my daughter need to be at every tryout? Just one? Do we have to pay additional or register for more than one?
A: We are giving players multiple opportunities to tryout for CVC. Players can come to as many tryouts as they wish and only pay & register once. It’s always good to attend as many tryout sessions as possible. You must attend at least one tryout session to be considered for a CVC team.
Q: My daughter wants to try out for more than one age group, do I have to pay twice or register more than once?
A: Register and pay once, however make sure you tell the check-in team what your intentions are so they are able to make a note on the evaluation sheet.
Q: Can my daughter “play up” in age group?
A: Yes, we will allow players to play up in an age group, especially if they are trying to play with their school age, i.e. a Sophomore who has a late birthday and is technically 15U but wants to play 16U. But also understand that our tryouts are very competitive, with up to 80-100 players trying out for each age group so in some instances playing your technical age may be a better fit. Again, make sure you tell the check-in team what your intentions are so they are able to make a note on the evaluation sheet.
Q: I can’t make it to your tryout date, will you have any more tryouts?
A: We have 2 dates scheduled for every age group and will have supplemental tryouts dates if needed, however there is no guarantee that positions will be available after the first two tryouts for each age group.
Q: Will you make offers at tryouts?
A: Yes, our coaches will make offers in writing at tryouts, and these offers are valid during the open tryout period, meaning we cannot offer another player your spot until you have given us a “yes” or “no” to the offer.
Q: If I don’t receive an offer at tryouts, does that mean I didn’t make it?
A: ABSOLUTELY NOT, since we have multiple tryouts sessions scheduled it will take us several days to evaluate all of the players and get offers out, so please be patient with us. In some instances we will have offers out and have to wait to hear back from a player before offering that spot to someone else.
Q: Will I be notified if I DON’T make a team?
A: Unfortunately we just don’t have the manpower to notify all of the players who have attended our tryouts. In some instances there are more than 80-100 players for a certain age group. It can take 4-5 days to work through our list of prospective players so please be patient. We will keep our website updated as teams are filled and if we will hold additional supplemental tryouts.
Q: Can I get my money back if I don’t make a team?
A: Your CVC Tryout fee of $55 is not refundable as we have to pay for court rental and our coach’s time. However, you are able to request a partial refund of your CHRVA season registration if you do not receive an offer to play or choose not to play club volleyball this season. More information on that can be found here.
Q: What time should I arrive before tryouts and what should I bring with me?
A: Because of the number of players who are trying out, it’s recommended to be at tryouts 30 minutes before the scheduled time. Players can get ready, stretch, warm-up, etc. while their parents check them in with our team. To speed up check-in, please make sure you bring:
- Copy of your CHRVA membership card
- A completed USAV Medical Release Form (PDF)
