Columbia Volleyball Club excels at MLK Kickoff Classic

Three teams from the Columbia Volleyball Club had a strong showing in the MLK Kickoff Classic in Lancaster, Pa., Jan. 15-17. The Lighting 16s, Eclipse 17s and Comets 18s finished the weekend with a combined 16-6 record against top teams from across the multi-state region in the tough Open Division.

The Lightning finished 4-2 in pool play on Saturday and Sunday before losing to the Keystone Juniors 16s following an earned bye in the first round of the playoffs on Monday. Members of the team are Allie Cable, Clarke Jamison, Savannah Kelley, Rebecca Pierce, Sarah Przybyla, Sydney Rhinevault, Teresa Rosenberg and Michaela Tummings.

The Eclipse were 2-1 on the first day of pool play, losing only to the eventual tournament third-place team. The second day proved just as successful with two wins in as many matches also leading to a playoff bye in the first round on Monday.
