The CVC Storm rallied to take the Bronze Bracket at the Capitol Hill Classic the weekend of February 13-15, 2010 at the Washington D.C. Convention Center.
After dropping the first set 25-12, the Storm rallied to defeat Valley Forge 15 Blue to claim the Bronze Bracket. Down 18-14 in the second set, Chelsea Owensby led a 5-0 run to give the Storm a 19-18 lead on their way to a 25-21 victory to even the match and one set each. The set saw Tish Carmona and Maddie Chervenak lead the defense with two digs each. Jordan Lawson led the offense with three kills. Carmona led the way in the third and deciding set with two digs and two aces, including an ace on match point.
The Storm began the final day defeating NVVA Loudoun Red 25-18 and 25-20. Lexi White-Torruellas led a 5-0 run with one ace and one kill. The run broke open a close set and gave the Storm a 23-16 lead. Lawson led the play at the net with two blocks and one kill. Allison Kupiec led a 5-0 run providing the Storm with a 9-5 lead. Amanda Kupiec added an ace of her own to extend the lead to 21-13. Kills by Anna Bella Sicilia and Lawson closed out the match.
The Storm started the second day with a 25-9 and 25-17 victory over Cut Shot 15 Elite. Rebecca Pierce got the Storm of to a quick start with two kills and one ace in the match’s first three points. Carmona and White-Torruellas continued the strong serving with two and three aces respectively. White-Torruellas also added three kills and Owensby dished out eight assists in the win. Pierce recorded three kills early in set two to stake the Storm to a 5-4 lead. Amanda Kupiec added a 5-0 service run with two aces to extend the lead to 13-7. Chervenak led the defense with two digs and Lawson paced the offense with three kills in the 25-17 win. The Storm dropped the final two matches to place third in their bracket.
The Storm did not drop a set in defeating HR Juniors 15-1 Riptide (25-18 and 25-18), NVVA Skyline 15 White (25-10 and 25-17), and DIGS 15 White (25-20 and 25-14) on the tournament’s first day.
