The Columbia Thunder 16s Regional team played in the SMJ Invitational on January 7.  The trip to Southern Maryland got off to a great start with a split against Virginia Elites 15s (10-25, 25-23).  The Thunder then split with MVSA 16 Starz (2-23, 15-25).  The last two matches ended with the losses to the SMJ Badgers (12-25, 18-25) and MVSA 15s Chaos (18-25, 11-25).  The team didn’t advance out of the bracket, Coach Moynihan seemed pleased with their first tournament experience and there were plenty of great plays to remember.  Congratulations to the Thunder and to Coaches Moynihan and McLaughlin.  The first one is always the toughest and the girls should be proud of their team effort

Silver in the Silver on 1/21.

THUNDER TAKES HOME GOLD

The NEQ in Pittsburgh was a successful tournament for the 16 regional team, the Columbia Thunder.  After a slow start on Friday, Saturday ended with a few strong matches and momentum was on Thunder's side as the final day began.  The Thunder defeated Pittsburgh Elite in a Tie Break victory to earn a trip to the Gold medal game in their flight.  The Gold Medal match ended with a dramatic tie break victory over the Lady Lions from the Penn State area.  The Thunder played like a team and overwhelmed the competition on the final day.  Congratulations to Coaches Moynihan and Monica, and to the entire Thunder squad for an exciting weekend.
